Whitesville is a town located in Boone County, West Virginia, United States. According to the 2019 census estimate, the population of Whitesville was 446. The town is located in the southern part of the state, near the borders of Virginia and Kentucky. Whitesville was incorporated in 1917 and was named for the large limestone deposits and white soil found in the region. The economy of Whitesville is largely based on coal mining, although there has been a decline in the industry in recent years. The town has several small businesses including banks, convenience stores, and restaurants. The town is also home to Whitesville Elementary School and Sherman Junior/Senior High School. Recreational activities in Whitesville include hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping in the nearby Appalachian Mountains.
